Kimi Raikonnen, 2008
October 19, 2008 by SportFiesta
With Kimi Raikonnen being out of the championship this year, it sure did wipe the smile off many faces.
There’s too many F1 fans that root for Kimi because of his driving style and ability to be a surprise winner every now and then even if he does not start at the top.
Being out of contention certainly is sad but that hasn’t dampened this Ferrari driver’s spirit who promises to come back in a big way next year.
However, Raikonnen did have something to say about the Japanese Grand prix which in reality did put him out of contention. With just 2 races remaining, Kimi is 21 points behind race leader Lewis Hamilton.

He did start at a strong post in the Japanese grand prix but coming third in the race wasn’t good enough. Kimi didn’t just need a podium finish but needed to win the whole 10 points to still be in the race for winner.
However, coming in 3rd helped get points for the constructor’s championship for Ferrari but on a personal front, Kimis race to another season’s title was over.
The backlash was expected and Kimi has voiced his opinion and does point fingers at McLarens aggressive driving which caused havoc for him with a late breaking effort in the first lap of the Japanese grand prix.
Though the Stewarts did penalise Hamilton for his aggressive driving with a drive through penalty it did little to change Massa finish in third place.
Despite making a concerted and dedicated effort to get faster on track, Alonso held onto his lead. Of course this win was phenomenal too as this is Alonso’s 2nd race win this season and 21st in his career despite having been written off by many critics.
Of course the race is still on, and we’re waiting for this year’s champion with baited breath.
